ROADKILL Ⅰ | 2012

Game

After witnessing the roadkill of pigeons, I became deeply concerned about the issue of pigeon survival in urban environments. This led me to create two pieces that address the survival challenges pigeons face in the city.

The first piece is a kinetic object that features a painting of a pigeon on a wheel that is turned by a motor, symbolising the death of the pigeon and visually conveying the threat that the urban environment poses to them.

The second piece is a survival game in which the pigeons have to dodge cars and pick up sweets that fall on the pavement. The piece recreates the challenge of survival for pigeons and their daily ways of surviving in a game format, highlighting the plight of pigeons in an urban environment.

By presenting the pigeons in a distorted and exaggerated form, both of these works aimed to create a humorous and symbolic representation of the futility of death and the reality of survival for pigeons in the city.
