Fixing the Rare: Goldfish from Biological Aesthetic to Algorithmic Aesthetic is a research-based art project that explores the forms and aesthetics of post-natural life through AI-driven virtual goldfish breeding. Cultivated for centuries according to human visual standards rather than ecological pressures, goldfish are ideal subjects for examining how aesthetic judgment has long functioned as a form of control over living organisms.

Using diffusion models trained with LoRA, the project generates, selects, and archives virtual goldfish images. Removed from biological substrate, what remains is the act of judgment itself. Some forms are preserved, others excluded; errors may become features depending on context and criteria. This process makes visible what has always operated within ornamental breeding—yet has often been obscured—the intersection of rarity, beauty, and power.
